Coronation Street star Joe Layton addresses ‘revenge’ with axed co-star after sweet show of support
star Joe Layton joked of ‘revenge’ as he was reunited with his former co-star, months after they filmed the scenes which resulted in a dramatic murder exit.
The actor is finding himself on the wrong side of fans of the soap as he continues to take on the role of Mick Michaelis. He made his debut in the show earlier this year alongside Farrel Hegarty as his wife, Lou.
In February, the pair were seen moving into Mawdsley Street at the back of Chesney and Gemma Winter-Brown’s house and were described as “nightmare neighbours” who were going to cause drama on the cobbles.
And it’s fair to say they have caused more than drama, thanks to Mick, as he’s responsible for the devastation felt by many in Weatherfield following the murder of PC Craig Tinker last month.
Previously speaking about the shock killer twist, Joe, who will leave the cobbles this summer, told the Manchester Evening News: “I know that when I got the offer through [for the job] it was going to involve killing someone and then when I has the Zoom with Kate, she said it was going to be Craig.
“Then on my first day, I arrived in the green room and I met Colson [Smith, who played Craig] and he said, ‘I think you’re going to kill me!’ And I said, ‘I think I might!’ It’s also credit to Colson because everyone at Corrie has been really lovely, but Colson inparticular has been so kind and welcoming to me…”
And it was over the weekend that Joe and Colson were reunited as they both attended the British Soap Awards 2025. The star-studded event took place on Saturday (May 31) and saw the stars of Corrie, , Hollyoaks and unite before going head-to-head for a series of gongs.
Taking to Instagram, Joe shared a picture of himself and Colson to his Story and joked: “Revenge is a dish best served cold…” with the snap showing his former co-star with his hands around his neck.
Joe also shared a sweet moment with on-screen wife Farrel, as a picture captured him watching on as she posed for the cameras at the first big soap event.
A caption alongside the post read: “Find someone that looks at you the way @jaylayts looks at @farrelhegarty.”
With Mick now charged with Craig’s murder, Joe previously reflected on his time on the soap and described working on the cobbles as a “real gift”.
When quizzed on what attracted him to the role of Mick, he said: “I think for me, the opportunity to step into Corrie for six months with a start and a finish point is a real gift.
“A lot of people step in and they’re on a year contract or six months with a view to more and you’re getting the scripts as they come and working out how you slot in, whereas it was kind of a gift for me to know ‘you start here, and you finish here.'”

Joe continued: “I sat and had a Zoom call with Kate Brooks, the producer, and she walked me through all of it and my first reaction was ‘how are we going to cram all that into six months?’ But then I started working on Corrie and realised how fast it moves.”
