Coronation Street fans spot Ollie ‘red herring’ as they ‘don’t trust’ new character

Coronation Street fans think they may have spotted a ‘red herring’ after making it clear they ‘don’t trust’ new character, Ollie.

Those who watch the ITV soap know Ollie has been introduced as Dee-Dee Bailey’s new love interest, which comes after a torrid time for the solicitor.

Ollie in Coronation Street

Ollie was first seen back in August when Dee-Dee met him at the Rovers Return. The pair quickly hit it off, but Dee-Dee wasn’t interested in getting into another relationship after what she has been through.

Fans will recall that Dee-Dee discovered she was pregnant towards the end of last year as the truth about the death of her villainous ex, Joel Deering, was played out in a series of flashback scenes.

After Joel’s murder, Dee-Dee kept her pregnancy a secret as she battled with the decision as to whether to keep her unborn child due to the link to her former fiancé, who was exposed as being a groomer.

With what Dee-Dee has been through, Corrie viewers were quickly sceptical of Ollie and he’s continued to raise eyebrows. It started when, during a Rovers date, Carla Connor and Lisa Swain were celebrating their engagement in the pub.

With the joyous occasion happening around them, Ollie was intrigued by who everyone was, particularly the happy couple. And it was his interest in Carla and Lisa that sparked fans to wonder what the mystery newcomer couple be up to, as they were certain he was up to something.

It was then during the latest trip to Weatherfield on Friday (September 26) that more questions about Ollie’s real motives were asked. It started when Dee-Dee and Ollie headed to the Bistro with Adam Barlow and Alya Nazir on their first official double date.

Ollie wasn’t impressed with the food and when Toyah Battersby came to collect their plates, and asked Ollie why he didn’t eat his, he appeared annoyed and told her that it was too heavy on the truffle oil and that he cares a lot about his food.

With things turning awkward, Alya set about smoothing things over but it was when Ollie heard her say Toyah’s name, his attitude changed and he suddenly seemed interested in the cobbles stalwart.

As Alya asked Toyah for a coffee, Ollie clocked her name with interest, saying: “That’s an unusual name.” Once their meal was over, Ollie tried to apologise, but Dee-Dee called him “rude” and “obnoxious”, saying she’d seen a different side to him.

With his fellow diners heading out of the restaurant, Ollie held back and took a suspicious call, where he promised to do some digging. Looking over at Toyah, he said: “I’ll find out what I can. Do a bit of digging.

Ollie was back during the latest trip to the cobbles on Monday (September 29), with him happy to spend time with Dee-Dee and her daughter. Dee-Dee revealed that her brother James, who she is co-parenting with, can’t baby sit, but Ollie was unfazed and suggested that Laila joined them for dinner.

Following the scenes, Corrie fans rushed to social media to comment. @claireh5611 said: “Still don’t trust Ollie at all! #corrie.” @RyanSoapKing25 commented: “I don’t trust Ollie. Please don’t let Dee Dee get hurt again #Corrie.”

@craggsy82 posted: “Somethings telling me that Ollie is another unhinged character #corrie.” @Raq91x added: “Still can’t work out why this Ollie is giving such weird vibes? And who was he on the phone to about Toyah the other day? Eva? #Corrie.”

With a connection to Imran Habeeb being suggested before, as well as DI Costello, some think the hints so far are a red herring. @Face4209Ghost said: “So he thought it was Lisa but it isn’t, I think him glancing over at Toyah is possibly a red herring….could Ollie actually be looking for Bethany? #Corrie.”

The same theory was shared on Reddit, with BasisEnough4088 sharing: “This Ollie bloke is looking tor a blonde girl & he thought it was Lisa, but it ain’t her. Now I think him glancing over at Toyah was a red herring….could he actually be looking for Bethany?”

Patient-Secret3565 suggested: “I think there’s gotta be a twist that Ollie is actually a old friend of Nathan Curtis and he’s actually going after Bethany.” But ddttm replied: “It’s got to be Lauren, she’s not been on screen for a few episodes, the writers will want her in a story before very much longer.”
