Coronation Street fans spot Carla Connor star’s ‘slip’ as ‘real’ her takes over

fans think that spotted Alison King ‘slip’ into the ‘real her’ as they thought they heard her usual accent during the latest trip to the cobbles.

The actress is famed, and adored, for playing Carla Connor in the  soap. While she may be best known for her time in Weatherfield, having made her debut back in 2006, playing Carla wasn’t her first TV role.

After studying drama at Groby Community College and working for four years as a dental nurse, Alison, who hails from , landed a role in the Channel 4 soap, Brookside, which is set for a one-off return as part of Hollyoaks’ upcoming 30th anniversary.

She appeared in one episode of the Channel 4 show in 1998 as a character named Helen before making her actual Corrie debut in 2004 in the role of Mrs Fanshaw in 2004. It was two years later that she officially became Carla and the rest, as they say, is history.

Alison is known for keeping her life away from the long-running show very private, but during the latest episode of Corrie on Monday (August 18), fans thought they heard the soap star’s real accent as she tried to work out Sarah Platt’s mess with one of their clients.

Sharing a clip of the moment on X (formerly known as ), @thatsmypeachx said: “Ali’s little accent slip when she says ‘will you just go hOmE'” #corrie.”

But it’s not the first time Alison’s real voice has been spoken about among viewers of the ITV soap after a past interview with the star resurfaced and shared online by @DuskyStrix, they said: “The fact ali speaks with an accent when playing carla makes her so much more attractive imo.. not to mention impressive.”

However, it did come as a surprise to some. @hayley_harkness replied: “I actually had no idea she was using a different accent than her irl one! Love this.” @Dilemmatime shared: “The consummate professional.” @luciferseve added: “I love when her actual accent slips in on the show.”

It comes after  last week when Carla’s planned proposal didn’t go to plan at all and she never got to ask her girlfriend Lisa Swain to marry her.

The suspense had been building as those who follow Corrie were made aware that the Underworld factory boss was set to pop the question, just a couple of months after she turned down Lisa’s ‘marry me’ request.

At the time, Carla didn’t want to accept Lisa’s proposal as it came in the immediate aftermath of her losing her colleague, PC Craig Tinker, in the line of duty following a shock attack by Mick Michaelis.

But knowing she wanted to spend her life with the detective sergeant, Carla set about acquiring a ring and nervously popping the question herself.

Sadly, Carla’s proposal, having been given second thoughts about how to ask the big question by Ryan Connor, didn’t go as hoped as once sitting in the Rovers Return, with Lisa having arrived late, they were distracted by Debbie Webster.

She was heard asking the couple for their thoughts on her own wedding invites which got Lisa chatting. Debbie quizzed Lisa on how her late wife, Becky, popped the question and it was then when Carla’s plan fell apart.

She explained that Becky had arranged for them to go out to a restaurant where she popped the engagement ring in a glass of fizz. As she retold the story, Glenda Shuttleworth was on her way over with glasses of champagne as Carla was about to propose in the same way before bringing it to a halt.
