Coronation Street Kirk star inundated with support over emotional announcement
Coronation Street’s Andy Whyment has been inundated with support after sharing an emotional announcement online.

Andy rose to prominence when he joined the ITV programme back in 2000 as Kirk Sutherland, the sibling of Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon). It’s safe to say it didn’t take long for him to become a viewer favourite.
Renowned for his witty remarks and endearing nature, Kirk has been at the centre of numerous major storylines throughout his time on Coronation Street.
From his turbulent relationship with Fiz Brown (Jennie McAlpine) to discovering romance with Beth Tinker (Lisa George) – which ultimately came to an end – Kirk’s journey in Weatherfield has been packed with drama, reports the Daily Star.
Particularly earlier this year, when he was left heartbroken after close friend and stepson Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) was savagely murdered by Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton).
Nevertheless, recently, Kirk star Andy Whyment turned to his Instagram and made a significant announcement regarding his tenure on the programme.
Accompanied by photographs of him on Corrie throughout the years, Andy disclosed in the caption that he was marking 25 years.
He penned: “25 years ago today Kirk Sutherland first appeared on @coronationstreet. I absolutely LOVE playing Kirk and it’s an honour and a privilege to have been a part of the Corrie family for a quarter of a century, and hopefully many more years to come. Here’s some pictures from the journey so far!”
Andy’s announcement received overwhelming backing from his co-stars. Lisa Swain actress Vicky Myers commented: “Fabulous achievement Andy congratulations.” Meanwhile, on-screen sister Samia added: “Best telly bro’ ever! Love you Andy and here’s to many more years of Kirk.”
Viewers also expressed their admiration, with one fan commenting: “Such memorable moments from one of the most memorable characters. Good old Kirkie!”. Another added: “Corrie wouldn’t be the same without Kirk, what a character happy 25 years Andy, thank you for bringing this character to an amazing light!”.
Beyond Coronation Street, Andy also portrayed Darren Sinclair-Jones on BBC’s comedy The Royle Family from 1999 to 2000. In 2019, he traded the cobbles for the Australian jungle when he featured on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity, finishing as runner-up.
