Coronation Street’s Gail Platt’s comeback date to the cobbles has been ‘revealed’.

Gail (Helen Worth) first appeared on the ITV soap back in 1974. As the romantically cursed mother-of-three, Gail became one of the programme’s most legendary and cherished characters.

She was also central to numerous major plotlines throughout the decades. From turmoil involving her offspring David (Jack P. Shepherd), Sarah (Tina O’Brien) and Nick Tisley (Ben Price) to startling killings and infidelities, Gail’s stint in Weatherfield has been packed with chaos.

Nevertheless, last June saw the announcement that Helen was departing the programme – with the 73 year old actress stating: “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world.”, reports the Daily Star.

Gail’s departure plot centred around her wedding to Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson). On Christmas Day 2024, Gail bid farewell to the cobbles in a poignant hour-long instalment as she and Jesse departed for France to begin their fresh chapter.

Since her departure, Gail has been referenced on several occasions – with David even paying her a visit earlier this year. Meanwhile on the soap lately, it’s been a thrilling period for the remainder of her clan.

Last month saw David’s spouse Shona (Julia Goulding) reveal the wonderful news that she was expecting her first baby with David – much to his joy. However, with the Platt family set to welcome a new member, fans are speculating about when Gail, the child’s grandmother, will make her return to Weatherfield – and they believe it’s imminent.

On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one user queried: “Who thinks Gail will return when Shona gives birth?” Another fan concurred: “I’d love that, even if it’s a video appearance.” A third added their thoughts: “I thought that as well.”

Meanwhile, in September, Julia Goulding, who plays Shona, hinted that her character’s upcoming baby storyline would be filled with ‘twists and turns’ on the ITV soap. When asked by the Mirror if there were exciting scenes ahead and some happy news, Julia responded: “Yeah, not that it’s without its drama.”

Remaining elusive, she then added: “There’s more drama on the way, definitely.” Julia further teased this, hinting it was related to the new child on the way.

She said: “What can I tease? I don’t know, apart from that there is gonna be lots of twists and turns for them regarding the future of their family… child..”
