Coronation Street’s Sydney Martin details ‘exciting’ move away from cobbles after ‘someone’ plea
Coronation Street star Sydney Martin has shared an ‘exciting’ move away from the cobbles after making a plea for another role.

The actress has spent just over a year playing Betsy Swain in the ITV soap. The daughter of DS Lisa Swain arrived on-screen last summer, then as Sabrina Adetiba’s mate before it was revealed who her mum is.
Landing the role marked Sydney’s big break and it was earlier this year that she marked a whole year in the role by posting a sweet message on social media.
In a photo shared to her Instagram page, she could be seen beaming for the camera as she held onto a cake with a ‘1’ candle burning on the top. Alongside the post, the 23-year-old soap star gushed: “1 whole year of Betsy Swain. So incredibly lucky & grateful. I [love] my job.”
Her portrayal of the teenager has earned her great praise from viewers, and not only is Sydney busy on-screen, she’s keeping busy off it.
She revealed this week that she’ll be hosting an acting workshop at the Craft Masters Academy, a performing arts school in Manchester founded by Hollyoaks star Isabelle Smith.
The announcement read: “Joining us for this exciting acting workshop is Sydney Martin, best known for her standout role as Betsy Swain in Coronation Street.
“A graduate of The Arden School of Theatre, Sydney has quickly captured the hearts of audiences with her naturalistic and heartfelt performances. We’re thrilled to welcome her and she’s just as excited to meet and work with you all!”
Resharing the update to her Instagram Story, the soap star shared: “Ahhh exciting,” before adding a heart emoji. It came after Sydney gave a glimpse at what her acting ambitions may be.
Taking to her TikTok page, she was seen looking into the camera as she mimed along to a scene from the BBC’s adaptation of Sally Rooney’s Normal People.
Alongside the post, she wrote: “someone please let me be in a coming of age drama [broken heart emoji].”
