Coronation Street’s Amy Robbins has signed a new contract to become a series regular.

Amy has been playing the role of Christina Boyd on and off since 2023. When she arrived, we discovered her difficult relationship with daughter Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan), and the hatred she felt towards Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews), Daisy’s stepmum.

Despite the trouble she’s caused, Christina has developed a few connections of her own while in Weatherfield. As a result, it’s given her a reason to stick around even though Daisy has left.

Recently, she started spending time with George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley).

Jenny, who was also interested in the funeral director, grew convinced that Christina was just after George’s money and believed if she could prove it, she could start seeing George instead.

Unfortunately for Jenny, George was far more keen on her enemy than her.

In a recent episode of the ITV soap, Christina was seen helping George, who is worried about Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce). She encouraged him to snoop through Todd’s emails to find any proof that he is hiding something. He was reluctant at first but George does this, and then discovers Todd is at the hospital getting results of a bowel cancer test.

Assisting George like this certainly suggests that Christina doesn’t have any bad intentions.

It looks like we will find out where the relationship will go though as The Sun has confirmed that Amy Robbins has become a new regular, which means Christina won’t show any signs of wanting to leave the cobbles in the near future.

A Coronation Street insider told Metro: ‘Christina is a classic Corrie character, a strong woman who knows her mind and runs rings around the men.

‘Amy is a brilliant comic actress and she is a welcome addition to the cast.’

Amy Robbins previously told us more about why Christina has caused so much mayhem in Weatherfield: ‘Her behaviour in the past has been to do with the fact that’s been badly treated by men and she’s built up lots of defences and a tough veneer.’

‘She’s on her own in this world and she’s had to look after herself for so long, it’s toughened her and made her very wily. But she’s come back and she’s met undertaker George Shuttleworth and she can let her guard down a little bit, because for once she’s got someone to care for her.’

‘She’s a hot mess and brilliant fun. In life there are times when you think: “oh, I’d like to say that, but obviously I won’t.” With her it’s a case of: ‘yes, I will just say that!’ So, it’s lovely.’

‘This is my third or fourth return. My character Christina behaved so abominably the first time that I just couldn’t see anyway she’d come back. When they phoned me to ask me back again it was the happiest day. I went: “woo-hoo!” I love it so much.’
